Bert Douglas:
A Family Remembers

I never met Bert Douglas. He was before my time. I was certainly aware of his work and knew of some of his friends: Sid Lorraine, Tom Bowyer, Murray Sumner, Ross Bertram and Johnny Giordmaine. All were pivotal figures in the Toronto magic scene and, with the possible exception of Murray Sumner, had international reputations.

Several years ago I was delighted to learn that the Douglas family was still based in Toronto, and that his two sons were genuinely pleased to have grown up in a household full of magic. Believe me, this does not happen very often. They were interested in developing an online tribute to their father and we were pleased to present their tribute to the online community.

As the technology has improved, and we have acquired additional images and ephemera associated with Bert Douglas, Julie Eng has kindly redeveloped the exhibition.

It is time to take a second look at the exhibition, and more importantly, Bert Douglas.   Do not hesitate to contact us if you have anything you’d like to add.
